Heritage
A house, in its own words
The story of Indira San Francisco began in early 2025 when Antonia Kohl, a Bay Area fragrance consultant with more than a decade of experience, decided to translate her love of scent into a brand that felt approachable. In an interview with The Dry Down Diaries, Kohl described the moment she realized that many perfume lovers were deterred by the mystique and cost of niche houses. She gathered a small team of formulators and sourced premium French oils, aiming to create a line that felt both luxurious and attainable. The first collection, unveiled later that year, comprised eight distinct fragrances ranging from the warm Cognac Vanilla to the bright Fresh Citron. The launch was covered by Basenotes, which recorded the brand’s founding year and noted its eight‑fragrance portfolio. Within months, the house earned placements in mainstream publications such as Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and InStyle, each highlighting the brand’s clean, vegan ethos and its emphasis on layering. By 2026 the brand’s Instagram feed was regularly showcasing seasonal rituals and encouraging followers to experiment with scent combinations, reinforcing the idea that perfume can be a daily creative practice. Throughout its first two years, Indira San Francisco has remained a privately held company based in San Francisco, operating without external investment and maintaining a small‑batch production model that allows for close quality control. The brand’s growth has been steady, driven by word‑of‑mouth among fragrance enthusiasts and coverage in lifestyle media that appreciate its blend of modern design and classic perfumery techniques. Indira San Francisco positions itself around three core ideas: intentionality, accessibility and expression. The brand’s own language describes its mission as offering "effortless, intentional, and attainable luxury," a phrase that appears on its press page and is echoed in third‑party features. Intentionality manifests in the way each fragrance is formulated to have a clear narrative—Cognac Vanilla evokes a warm, after‑dinner comfort, while Oud Rose Intense leans into a deep, floral richness. Accessibility is reflected in the decision to keep every scent vegan, cruelty‑free and priced within a range that does not require a collector’s budget. Expression comes from the layering philosophy promoted on the brand’s Instagram, where Kohl explains that each perfume is balanced on its own yet designed to blend seamlessly with another, allowing wearers to curate a scent that evolves with mood and season. The brand also stresses sustainability, choosing ingredients that meet clean standards and packaging that favors recyclable glass. This combination of clear storytelling, inclusive pricing and environmentally aware choices defines the creative vision that guides every new release.
