Heritage
A house, in its own words
Ilya Parfums emerged from the personal studio of Ilias Kakis, a British perfumer who spent several years experimenting with natural extracts before formalising his vision as a brand. In 2020 (reported by the founder’s social media), Kakis opened an online perfumery school that targets serious hobbyists, aspiring perfumers, and future fragrance entrepreneurs. The school’s curriculum blends aromatic theory with practical formulation, allowing participants to create their own blends under professional guidance. The same year, the brand introduced its first commercial line, a quartet of scents released under the “Velvet” moniker—Black Velvet, Green Velvet, Blue Valley, and Santal Fatal—all launched in 2021. These fragrances quickly established a reputation for bold, layered compositions that balance rare natural ingredients with modern synthetic accents. Building on that momentum, Ilya Parfums expanded its portfolio with Elude in 2022, a fragrance that explored airy, aquatic notes, and Heaven’s Tide in 2023, a scent that combined marine accords with a luminous citrus heart. Throughout its growth, the house has remained independent, operating out of a modest workshop where small batches are hand‑filled. The brand’s commitment to education and transparency has fostered a community of scent enthusiasts who often share their own creations on social platforms, reinforcing the house’s ethos of collaborative discovery. While the label does not claim mainstream awards, its focus on craftsmanship and learning has earned it a loyal following among connoisseurs who value both the product and the process behind it. The creative vision of Ilya Parfums rests on three pillars: education, sustainability, and artistic freedom. The founder believes that fragrance should be both an expressive art and an accessible science, which is why the brand offers an online school that demystifies raw material selection, olfactory structure, and formulation techniques. Sustainability is articulated as a guiding value; the brand states that it sources the rarest materials responsibly, favoring suppliers who practice ethical harvesting and traceability. Production is limited to small batches, a practice intended to reduce waste and preserve the integrity of each ingredient. Artistic freedom manifests in the brand’s willingness to experiment with unconventional pairings, such as juxtaposing smoky woods with bright citrus or integrating marine synthetics with earthy resins. Ilya Parfums encourages its community to view perfume as a personal narrative, inviting users to remix base accords and create bespoke extensions. This philosophy translates into a transparent communication style: product pages often list the exact proportion of key notes, and the school’s modules include case studies drawn from the brand’s own releases. By marrying education with a responsible sourcing ethic, Ilya Parfums seeks to cultivate a new generation of informed creators who respect both the art and the ecology of scent.
