Heritage
A house, in its own words
Huron was founded in 2018 by two men, both named Matt, who joined forces to build a men's care brand from scratch. The launch arrived during a wave of digitally native grooming labels, and Huron distinguished itself early by leaning into fragrance-forward body products rather than traditional shave or skincare categories. According to co-founder Matt Mullenax, the brand's debut collection drew strong feedback about scent quality, which became the foundation for moving into standalone fragrances. The brand expanded its fragrance line in 2022 with Original Citrus + Eucalyptus and Sandalwood + Black Pepper, followed by Cypress + Vetiver in 2023. The transition from scented body products to full eau de parfum formulations marked a clear evolution for the company, positioning Huron within a growing segment of independently owned men's fragrance houses. Before co-founding Huron, Mullenax reportedly spent years developing fragrances for established houses including Tom Ford and Lab Series, an experience that informed the brand's approach to scent architecture. The two Matts have continued to co-lead the business publicly, often appearing together in brand communications. Huron operates on a straightforward principle: make men's grooming products that smell genuinely good, without the markup or mystery that often surrounds the category. The founders have spoken openly about using the customer feedback loop as a compass, starting from the earliest days when the most common compliment was simply about scent quality. That signal guided the move from scented body washes and deodorants into dedicated fragrances. The brand approaches perfumery with a practical, ingredient-led mindset. Each composition tends to center on a clear, recognizable accord (citrus and eucalyptus, sandalwood and black pepper, cypress and vetiver) rather than abstract or overly layered concepts. This simplicity is intentional, designed to produce scents that feel wearable across seasons and settings rather than confined to a single occasion. The founders have also emphasized reimagining men's care as a category, suggesting a desire to challenge conventions around what men's grooming products can look, feel, and smell like.
