Heritage
A house, in its own words
The story of Daniel de Fasson begins in Havana, Cuba, where the designer was born before establishing his professional life in the United States. His path took him through the disciplines of both architecture and fashion, a dual training that would inform his approach to design across categories. In 1989, he incorporated Designers in Motion, Inc. in Miami, Florida, creating a formal structure for his creative enterprise. The following year, 1990, marked his entry into the fragrance world through a partnership with Parlux Société Anonyme, a established player in the perfume industry. This collaboration resulted in the single Daniel de Fasson fragrance, launched as an eau de parfum in the classic floral oriental style. Unlike many fashion designers who expanded into extensive fragrance lines, Fasson maintained a singular focus, releasing only this signature scent. The fragrance eventually was discontinued, but not before establishing a loyal following. The company, Designers in Motion, remained active under Fasson's ownership in Miami for decades following the fragrance launch. Daniel de Fasson's approach to fragrance appears to have been one of focused restraint rather than prolific expansion. With a background spanning both architecture and fashion design, he brought a multidisciplinary sensibility to the creation of his single signature scent. The floral oriental composition, heavy on warm drydown notes, suggests an aesthetic drawn to timelessness rather than trend-chasing. Rather than pursuing market saturation through multiple flankers or limited editions, the designer made a single concentrated statement. This philosophy of quality over quantity, of creating one fully realized vision rather than a portfolio of products, distinguished his approach in an industry where fashion houses often treat fragrance as an extension of branding rather than an art form in its own right.
