    Elena Markova

Elena Markova grew up in Kargopol, a northern Russian town where craft and folklore intertwine. A descendant of generations of artisans, she first trained at Abramtsevo Industrial Art College, graduating in 1987 with a focus on ceramics. The tactile discipline of shaping clay taught her to listen for subtle shifts in texture, a skill that later guided her transition to fragrance. Around the early 2000s she entered the niche perfume world, joining the boutique house Acidica Perfumes. Over the past two decades she has authored more than sixty scents, each bearing her signature balance of tradition and modernity. Her breakthrough arrived with the release of “8 Jewels Tea,” a composition that earned praise for its elegant harmony and positioned her as a rising voice among independent perfumers. Today she continues to explore the dialogue between scent and memory, drawing on her artistic roots while mentoring emerging talent.

    How Elena composes

Elena favors a linear architecture that unfolds gradually, beginning with a clear opening, moving through a nuanced heart, and resolving in a lingering base. She often selects botanical extracts such as white tea, bergamot, and rare woods, pairing them with mineral accords that echo her ceramic background. Her technique includes precise layering, where each ingredient receives its own moment before merging into a cohesive whole. She avoids over‑loading the formula, preferring clean transitions that highlight the purity of each component. The result is a refined, modern scent that feels both familiar and surprising.

    Philosophy

    What drives Elena

Markova treats each bottle as a conversation between the past and the present. She believes that fragrance should echo a lived experience rather than merely decorate a moment. Her work stems from a curiosity about how raw materials recall personal narratives, and she seeks to translate those memories into scent without excess. She values restraint, allowing each note to breathe before introducing the next. For her, the creative spark ignites when a single aroma evokes a story she can expand into a full composition. This disciplined curiosity drives her to experiment with uncommon pairings while staying anchored in classic structure.
