Domitille Micholon-Bertier
Domitille Michalon-Bertier was born in Paris, where she spent her formative years with an architect's ambition. She wanted to create structures for people to inhabit, spaces that would shape their daily lives. That dream shifted when she discovered professional perfumery existed, and she redirected her creative energy toward molecules rather than masonry. She enrolled at ISIPCA in Paris, the prestigious school that has trained generations of French perfumers, before joining International Flavors & Fragrances as a trainee in 1994. She never left. Over the next three decades at IFF's Neuilly laboratory, she rose through the ranks to Senior Perfumer in 2007, then Vice President Perfumer, before being appointed head of the perfumers in February 2021. The role placed her at the helm of one of the world's most influential fragrance houses, guiding a team of creators while continuing to compose her own work. Her early career at a global leader gave her exposure to every scale of fragrance creation, from intimate artisanal concepts to blockbuster commercial work. She has built a body of work that spans brands and generations, never limiting herself to a single aesthetic.

How Domitille composes
Domitille's signature embraces contrast and balance, often working across traditional categories rather than within them. She has shown particular skill with gourmand compositions that remain sophisticated rather than saccharine, and with bright, sassy interpretations of classical forms like the Cologne. Her use of citrus and fresh materials demonstrates precision, extracting maximum character from clean, natural-seeming accords. She has also demonstrated range through work with the Lanvin house, creating fragrances that balance contemporary sensuality with heritage elegance. Her approach to ingredients favors clarity and purpose, building compositions where each material contributes to a coherent emotional statement rather than competing for attention. The technical foundation from her decades at IFF shows in the durability and craftsmanship of her work, fragrances that evolve thoughtfully on the skin.
Philosophy
What drives Domitille
Domitille approaches fragrance as a form of architecture, building with materials that dissolve into air rather than occupy space. She has spoken about the timelessness of scent, how a great fragrance can outlast trends and personal memories alike. Her work tends toward emotional clarity rather than complexity for its own sake. She favors compositions where each element has a clear purpose, where the wearer understands why a material was chosen rather than simply marveling at the result. This architectural sensibility means her fragrances often feel structured and intentional, with clear lines of development. She has expressed particular interest in how fragrance creates connection between people, how a scent worn close to the skin becomes part of someone's story.
