The Beginning
L'Erbolario created Mandorla to mark their 45th anniversary, reviving a beloved fragrance from their archives. The Italian brand has built its identity around botanical ingredients and accessible luxury, positioning each perfume as an olfactory chapter in a larger story of Italian craftsmanship. This limited edition represents their most requested fragrance concepts, brought back by popular demand for one year only. The name Mandorla means almond in Italian, a direct reference to the protagonist note that defines this composition.
Almond as a fragrance note occupies an unusual space: familiar yet specific, sweet yet with an edge. Here it's delivered through almond blossom, which carries more nuance than synthetic almond accords. The combination with jasmine at the opening is unconventional, typically jasmine partners with citrus or other florals. Using it to soften bergamot's sharpness before yielding to almond creates an unexpected arc. Benzoin from Siam (modern-day Thailand) adds a resinous depth that prevents the drydown from becoming one-dimensional.
The Evolution
The fragrance opens sharper than expected, that bergamot bite demanding attention before retreating. What follows is pure almond warmth, smooth and edible, with jasmine barely a whisper beneath. Over the next few hours, vanilla and benzoin gradually expand, creating a soft amber trail that clings to skin and fabric. On fabric especially, it persists well beyond the stated 4-6 hours, maintaining that warm, sweet presence. The evolution isn't dramatic, more like watching fog roll in: gradual, inevitable, enveloping.

A quiet afternoon in a sunlit kitchen. The gentle clatter of cups, the smell of something sweet baking nearby. Peaceful, unhurried, with a hint of something private.
