The Story
Why it exists.
Levitating arrived in 2022 as part of Floraïku's Secret Teas & Spices collection, a line that explores the airy, weightless moments of Japanese tea ceremony. Inspired by the idea of volutes and undulating clouds, the fragrance aims to capture a floating world where citrus brightens the air before a warm, spiced tea settles in. The Molloys’ love for poetic rituals guided the choice of mandarin, bergamot and angelica seed to open the scent, while clove and black tea give it a distinct, rejuvenating heart.

The Beginning
Levitating arrived in 2022 as part of Floraïku's Secret Teas & Spices collection, a line that explores the airy, weightless moments of Japanese tea ceremony. Inspired by the idea of volutes and undulating clouds, the fragrance aims to capture a floating world where citrus brightens the air before a warm, spiced tea settles in. The Molloys’ love for poetic rituals guided the choice of mandarin, bergamot and angelica seed to open the scent, while clove and black tea give it a distinct, rejuvenating heart.
The combination of clove and maté absolute is unusual in a unisex Eau de Parfum, bringing a vegetal, slightly bitter edge that balances the sweet vanilla base. Guaiac wood and Virginia cedar anchor the drydown, adding a smoky‑woody depth that lingers without overwhelming. This blend mirrors the delicate balance of a tea ceremony: bright, warm, and contemplative.
The Evolution
The opening erupts with mandarin orange and bergamot, their citrus sparkle cutting through the earthy aroma of angelica seed. Within the first ten minutes the scent settles into a tea‑spiced core, where clove punctuates the smooth black tea and maté adds a subtle herbaceous lift. As the heart fades, the base emerges: guaiac wood introduces a dry, resinous nuance, while bourbon vanilla softens the composition with creamy sweetness. Virginia cedar provides a lingering woody finish that clings to the skin for the remainder of the day, delivering a drydown that feels both warm and slightly smoky, lasting well into the evening.
Cultural Impact
Levitating, launched in 2022, reflects a growing fascination with tea‑inspired fragrances that bridge Eastern ceremonial practices and Western perfumery. The scent’s use of Angelica seed and Italian mandarin evokes the ritual of Japanese tea ceremonies, where precision and mindfulness are prized. By integrating clove‑spiced black tea notes, the fragrance nods to the historic trade routes that brought tea and spices together, symbolizing cultural exchange between Europe and Asia. Its popularity among younger consumers signals a shift toward scents that tell a story of global connectivity, encouraging wearers to contemplate the origins of each ingredient.
The House
France · Est. 2017
Floraïku Paris is a niche fragrance house founded in 2017 by Clara and John Molloy, the Irish-French couple behind Memo Paris. The brand draws its name from the fusion of two words: Flora, honoring the plant world and natural beauty, and Haïku, referencing the traditional three-line Japanese poetic form. Each fragrance arrives named after a haiku poem and organized into collections that pay tribute to Japanese ceremonies. The first launch in July 2017 introduced eleven fragrances. Working with perfumers including Alienor Massenet, Miroslav Petkov, Philippe Paparella-Paris, Yann Vasnier, Sarah Burri, and Sophie Labbe, the house has built a library that spans multiple collections. The Shadowing™ collection offers companion fragrances designed to layer with existing scents. The Forbidden Incense collection draws inspiration from the Kōdō ceremony, the Japanese art of appreciating incense. Initial retail distribution included an exclusive launch at Harrods in London.
