Heritage
A house, in its own words
Lumi Cosméticos appeared on the scene in the early 2010s, when a small collective of scent enthusiasts gathered in a shared loft in São Paulo. Their goal was to translate the vivid colors of street art into fragrance, using bright notes that could be worn daily. The first public launch arrived in 2014 with two releases—Oceano and Brisa—both of which captured coastal breezes and earned praise from local boutiques. Building on that momentum, the brand introduced Petit FEMI, Pocket MASC and Red Queen in 2017, a trio that explored gender fluid storytelling through contrasting citrus, floral and woody layers. Dunk followed in 2018, offering a smoky, midnight inspired profile that broadened the house’s appeal to evening wear. In 2019 Lumi expanded its palette with Okto and Lolis, experiments that blended exotic spices with soft musks and signaled a willingness to push beyond its original bright aesthetic. Over the next few years the label opened a modest studio in Buenos Aires, began collaborating with independent glass artisans, and released limited edition bottles that highlighted sustainable packaging. By 2024 the catalogue grew to thirteen scents, a milestone that coincided with a refreshed visual identity and a stronger digital presence. Throughout its evolution, Lumi has remained rooted in a community first mindset, inviting customers to co‑create scent stories through social media polls and pop up events. The brand’s trajectory illustrates how a youthful vision can mature into a respected niche player while keeping the spark of its founding studio alive. Lumi’s philosophy centers on light as both a visual and aromatic principle. The team believes that a fragrance should feel immediate, like a flash of sunrise, yet develop enough depth to linger through a day. To achieve this, they pair high impact top notes—such as bergamot, pink pepper or marine accords—with subtle bases that emerge only after the initial brightness fades. The house rejects rigid gender categories, encouraging each wearer to define the scent’s role in personal expression. Sustainability guides every decision; Lumi sources ingredients from farms that practice regenerative agriculture and prefers biodegradable solvents. Creative sessions happen in an open studio where perfumers, designers and fans exchange ideas in real time, ensuring that each launch reflects a collective pulse rather than a single author’s vision. This collaborative spirit, combined with a commitment to clarity and freshness, distinguishes Lumi from more traditional houses that rely on historic formulas.
