Heritage
A house, in its own words
Laura Bosetti Tonatto began her career in the perfume industry in 1986, initially creating formulations for major cosmetic companies and bespoke blends for private clients. Her reputation as a skilled nose grew internationally over nearly four decades of professional perfumery work before she launched her own branded collection. The Essenzialmente Laura line emerged as a way to offer her personal olfactory vision directly to fragrance enthusiasts rather than solely through contract work. She opened her first boutique in 2015 on Via dei Coronari, a historic street in Rome known for antique shops and artisan businesses. A second location followed in 2021 in Campo de' Fiori, placing the brand at the heart of Rome's most vibrant square. The brand achieved a singular honor when Bosetti Tonatto became the first perfumer commissioned to create perfumes for the Vatican Museums, institutions founded by Pope Julius II in the 16th century. This commission marked the first time in over 500 years that such a collection had been developed for these museums, representing an unprecedented recognition of her craft within Italy's most sacred cultural institutions.
Bosetti Tonatto approaches perfumery as a form of sensory storytelling, using fragrance to preserve and communicate the atmosphere of specific Roman places and moments. Her creations are inspired by locations rather than abstract emotion, translating the scent memory of orange tree blossoms in a Roman garden, the air inside centuries-old churches, or the character of a cobblestone courtyard into liquid form. She works with royal etiquette in mind when creating for aristocratic clients, understanding that certain fragrance families carry protocol implications. Her collection is organized using the formal French fragrance classification system, lending structure to what might otherwise be an intuitive body of work. Rather than chasing trend cycles, Bosetti Tonatto returns repeatedly to classical materials and time-honored accords, believing that proper perfumery means working with raw materials in ways that honor their complexity. Each fragrance in the collection carries the name of its inspirational source, whether that is a specific Roman street, a garden, or a historical site.
