A house, in its own words
Bottega Profumiera emerged from Maurizio Lembo's personal trajectory through Italian perfumery. According to available sources, Lembo grew up immersed in his family's fragrance business during what is described as the glorious years of perfumery in Rome. This early exposure shaped his understanding of Italian aromatic traditions before he established his own house in 2013. The founding year marked an ambitious launch, with the house releasing seven fragrances simultaneously including Galantuomo, Mon Jardin, Polianthes, Rose Poudre, Shardana, and Gourmand. The 2016 introduction of InFlora expanded the collection into new olfactory territory, followed by continued releases that brought the total catalog to 21 fragrances. Unlike houses that contract external laboratories, Bottega Profumiera built its identity around complete self-sufficiency, a decision rooted in Lembo's desire to maintain direct oversight of every creative and technical decision. The Roman base plays a significant role in the brand's self-conception, connecting the house to a city with centuries of aromatic heritage. Rather than positioning itself as a challenger brand, Bottega Profumiera operates quietly within the niche segment, relying on fragrance communities and specialized retailers rather than mass market presence.
The house operates from a belief that Italian perfumery should remain comprehensible to its wearers. Bottega Profumiera avoids abstract fragrance narratives that disconnect scent from tangible experience. Instead, each fragrance carries identifiable olfactory signatures that communicate their character directly. The house designs for wearers who value clarity over complexity for its own sake. Maurizio Lembo approaches fragrance creation as a form of storytelling grounded in Italian sensory culture. Rather than chasing trend-driven compositions, the house draws from established Italian aromatic traditions, interpreting familiar themes through a contemporary lens. The philosophy extends to how the collection itself is structured, with fragrances intended to serve distinct occasions and personalities rather than functioning as variations on a single house signature. This approach reflects a practical understanding of how fragrance functions in daily life, where different moments call for different emotional registers.
