A house, in its own words
Before there was a fragrance house, there was HOPE. Swedish designer Ann Ringstrand co-founded the Stockholm ready-to-wear label HOPE and spent over two decades shaping its minimalist, quietly confident aesthetic. Fashion gave her a language for proportion, restraint, and material honesty, but by the mid-2010s she felt the pull toward something slower and more sensory. In 2017, she stepped away from the runway calendar and launched ANN RINGSTRAND, a new brand built around scent rather than silhouette. Rather than develop the line in-house, Ringstrand traveled to Paris and partnered with perfumers there to compose her vision. The result is a small, considered collection of eau de parfum and home fragrance, produced in France with what the house describes as the finest materials the country offers. The brand sits comfortably in the niche category, with distribution that has reached discerning stockists in Scandinavia, New York, and beyond. Though still relatively young, the house has carved out a clear identity by drawing a straight line from Ringstrand's fashion training to her olfactory work, treating scent as another cut of cloth to be tailored with care. Today ANN RINGSTRAND operates from New York while keeping its production rooted in French perfumery traditions, a dual geography that defines its creative rhythm. ANN RINGSTRAND treats fragrance as an extension of the designer's eye, not as decoration. After 25 years building wardrobes at HOPE Stockholm, Ringstrand understood clothing as a form of architecture around the body, and she carries that same structural thinking into scent. Each composition is built around a single anchoring idea, then pared back until only what is necessary remains. The house describes its work as designs for the senses, and the language is deliberately close to fashion: there are no sprawling pyramids or crowd-pleasing tricks, only clean, intentional shapes made from raw materials. The line moves between eau de parfum for the skin and scented oils and candles for the home, all conceived as part of one wardrobe. Ringstrand's move from fashion into fragrance was a deliberate pivot toward stillness, away from the relentless pace of seasonal collections. That shift shows up in the compositions themselves, which feel grounded, tactile, and unhurried. The brand also extends beyond scent into ceramics and other objects, all sharing the same quiet Nordic restraint. Nothing in the house is designed to shout. Everything is designed to be lived with.
