    Terri Bozzo

Terri Bozzo grew up in the Central Valley, where the scent of ripe tomatoes and citrus orchards sparked a quiet curiosity about aroma. She earned a B.S. and a master’s degree in Nutritional Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, then spent several years in a research lab studying the chemopreventive properties of soy. The precision of chromatography and the discipline of experimental design taught her how to listen to molecules. In 2014 she turned that laboratory rigor into a creative studio, founding Kyse Perfumes in Tracy, California. From the first batch of a citrus-green tea blend, she built a modest line that now reaches boutique retailers across the West Coast. Terri treats each bottle as a small laboratory, testing, adjusting, and documenting every proportion. Her background gives her a unique lens: she measures scent the way a scientist measures a reaction, yet she lets intuition guide the final balance. Today she mentors a handful of apprentices and curates seasonal releases that reflect both her Californian roots and her scientific training.

    How Terri composes

Terri favors natural extracts that she can trace back to a single source. She often begins with a single note—such as soy-derived lactones, Californian sage, or a hand-picked citrus peel—and builds outward, layering supporting accords that reinforce the core. Her technique relies on slow maceration, allowing volatile compounds to integrate over weeks before she evaluates the blend. She records temperature, humidity, and time for each batch, then tweaks the formula in small increments. The result is a scent architecture that feels balanced at the first spray and evolves with skin chemistry. Terri’s preferred palette includes green herbs, bright citruses, soft woods, and occasional marine minerals, all treated with the same analytical care she applied in her lab work.

    Philosophy

    What drives Terri

Terri approaches fragrance as a dialogue between data and feeling. She starts each concept with a question about how a scent can echo a memory or a place, then translates that question into a spreadsheet of ingredients, ratios, and projected evaporation curves. Her scientific training pushes her to verify every accord with repeatable tests, while her love of California’s outdoors urges her to capture sunlight, sea breeze, and the scent of fresh soil. She believes a perfume should earn its place on the skin, not merely sit on the surface. By grounding creativity in measurable parameters, she creates scents that feel both honest and surprising. The result is a collection that reads like a field notebook, each entry marked by a clear purpose and a subtle emotional payoff.
