Maxime Philippe-Bonelli
Maxime Philippe-Bonelli grew up in Paris, but something kept pulling him south. Grasse called to him early on, that rare city where perfume is not just an industry but an inheritance. A meeting with Michel Almairac confirmed what he already sensed. The veteran perfumer's guidance shaped his direction. Maxime trained at Robertet, where he spent over a decade building his vocabulary of materials. He earned recognition in 2021 when he won the SFP International Perfumer-Creator Award, a significant honor for any emerging nose. Today he works at Essential while continuing to develop his signature voice from the region that first drew him in.

How Maxime composes
Twelve years at Robertet gave Maxime a deep fluency in naturals. He gravitates toward ingredients with texture and history, materials that carry weight and evolve on the skin. His compositions tend toward the layered and the lasting, constructed with patience rather than speed. He favors clarity over complexity, ensuring each note has room to breathe.
Philosophy
What drives Maxime
Maxime treats each fragrance as a conversation between instinct and structure. He does not chase trends. He builds compositions that feel necessary rather than fashionable, grounded in the belief that a great perfume should answer a question the wearer did not know they were asking. His work starts with materials, with what they can do together, and grows from there.
