    Karen Young

Karen Young built her fragrance career inside the corporate beauty machine before stepping out on her own. She held the role of Vice President of Marketing, Advertising, Product Development, and Sales Promotion at Lancôme, where she developed a deep fluency in how scent moves product, culture, and consumer desire. In 1999, she opened The Young Group, a consultancy that brought her strategic instinct and creative range to brands across the category. Years later, she founded OUI the People, a fine fragrance and body care line born from her own frustration with razor burn and ingrown hairs. The brand, which launched exclusively at Sephora, treats everyday grooming as an opportunity for considered scent. She also created Therapeutate-Parfums.com, a platform positioned at the intersection of fragrance and wellness. Today she remains an active voice in the industry, recently documenting The Fragrance Foundation awards and teaching consumers how to read a perfume's structure through top, heart, and base notes.

    How Karen composes

Young's signature approach centers on accessibility without compromise. She builds compositions that read clearly to the wearer, with transparent top, heart, and base architecture rather than dense, opaque accords. Her body care and fine fragrance work at OUI the People leans into skin-friendly, softly sensual profiles, ingredients that feel good and smell personal rather than performative. She has a gift for translating luxury olfactory language into formats that live in a shower routine or a post-shave moment. Across her consultancy and her own brands, she favors clarity over abstraction, and warmth over shock.

    Philosophy

    What drives Karen

Young treats fragrance as functional beauty first and artistic indulgence second. Her work at OUI the People reflects a belief that the products people use daily, from body oil to shave balm, deserve the same compositional care as a haute parfum. She thinks in terms of timelines rather than recipes, helping wearers understand that a fragrance shifts across hours and skin types. This educational impulse runs through everything she builds. Whether consulting for legacy houses or launching her own brand, she approaches scent as a tool for confidence, comfort, and small daily rituals. Wellness runs through her practice, and her Therapeutate-Parfums.com project signals an ongoing curiosity about how aroma interacts with mood and body.
