Joseph Constantin
Joseph Constantin entered the perfume world with a chemistry degree from a Parisian university, then honed his nose at the Institut supérieur du parfum. Early apprenticeships at a historic house gave him exposure to classic French techniques, while a stint in a boutique lab let him experiment with natural extracts. In 2023 he launched a trio of scents that each explores a different facet of humanity, memory, desire, and renewal. The collection debuted at Fondazione Sozzani, where curators praised its emotional clarity. Since then he collaborates with independent houses, always placing narrative at the heart of his work.

How Joseph composes
Joseph favors natural absolutes paired with subtle synthetics that add structure. He reaches for citrus from Provence, cedar from the Atlas, and rare florals harvested at dawn. When a base note needs depth, he turns to ambergris substitutes and aged woods. His technique often starts with a clear top accord, followed by a heart that unfolds slowly, and a base that lingers without overwhelming. He measures each drop by scent, not by formula, and he revisits a blend until the transition feels effortless.
Philosophy
What drives Joseph
Joseph believes that scent should act as a bridge between the body and the stories we carry. He draws inspiration from everyday moments - a sunrise over the Seine, the scent of rain on stone, a whispered confession. Each formula begins with a single emotion, then he layers accords that echo that feeling. He avoids gimmicks, preferring ingredients that speak honestly. For him, the lab feels like a studio, and every batch is a draft of a larger conversation about identity and place.
