    Master Perfumer

    Jeanne Gladkova

Zhanna Gladkova came of age in the final years of the Soviet Union, a moment when the heavy curtains of state-run perfumery began to part. Trained in the Russian tradition of fragrance composition, she moved through the turbulent 1990s and into the new millennium carrying an old-world craft into a rapidly changing market. Rather than chase European houses, Gladkova built her own platform: she founded the School of Perfumery, a hands-on academy where amateurs and aspiring professionals study raw materials directly at the bench, and she chairs the Academy of Perfumery attached to the Perfumers Club. Her work straddles education and creation, a dual vocation that has made her one of the most recognizable names in Russian independent perfumery. Through her school and her compositions, she has championed a distinctly Slavic approach to scent: generous, romantic, and unafraid of bold florals.

    The signature

    How Jeanne composes

Gladkova's signature lies in lush florals tempered by a distinctly Russian sensibility for depth and warmth. She reaches often for rose, iris, and white floral accords, giving them weight through resinous and powdery bases rather than letting them float airy and abstract. Her work shows a preference for natural-leaning materials handled with classical training: rich absolutes, warm ambers, and soft musks that linger on skin like a second layer. She composes with an educator's clarity, each note earning its place. Her debut release "Rassvet" (Dawn) set the template: a sunrise rendered in scent, opening bright and resolving into something deeply tender.

    Philosophy

    What drives Jeanne

Gladkova believes fragrance should teach people something about themselves. Her creative approach treats perfume as a form of emotional literacy: a way to name what words cannot reach. She often speaks of scent as a language one can learn, and her work as both perfumer and teacher reflects that conviction. She gravitates toward compositions that feel personal and lived-in, the smell of a memory, a season, a feeling. Her school and her compositions share a single conviction: that perfumery is not a luxury mystery but a craft anyone serious can learn. This democratizing bent shapes everything she makes, each fragrance built to reward close attention rather than dazzle at a distance.
