Fady Adwan
Fady Adwan did not arrive in perfumery through the conventional routes. Born in Palestine, he first made his mark as a professional photographer, an eye trained to capture light, shadow, and the subtle interplay of color. That visual sensibility translated unexpectedly well into fragrance. He moved into the perfume world with curiosity and drive, building expertise across formulation, creation, and brand development. Today, he holds multiple titles: Co-Founder of The Gate Fragrances Paris, Founder of Viage Fragrances and Perfumery Solutions, and Co-Owner of Kinetic Perfumes Barcelona. His recent overhaul of The Gate's entire collection signaled a new chapter for the house, pushing it into the upper tiers of niche perfumery. Adwan approaches scent the way a photographer approaches a frame, seeking contrast, balance, and the precise moment when elements cohere into something memorable.

How Fady composes
Adwan gravitates toward bold contrasts and unexpected pairings. His recent work with The Gate Paris shows a comfort with high-impact ingredients like oud, paired with brighter accords of yuzu and bergamot to prevent heaviness. He uses herbs and spices with restraint but intention, favoring thyme and pink pepper to add dimension without caricature. Jasmine appears frequently as a bridge between cool and warm notes. His textures tend toward the concentrated: Extrait de Parfum formulations dominate, allowing raw materials to speak at full volume.
Philosophy
What drives Fady
Adwan believes fragrance should function like a signature, instantly recognizable yet full of depth upon closer inspection. He resists the formulaic, favoring compositions that challenge expectations while remaining wearable. His work draws on his multicultural background and his experience across different corners of the perfume industry, from boutique creation to larger-scale solutions. He treats each fragrance as an independent project rather than a brand extension, which keeps his output unpredictable and genuinely interesting.
