Heritage
A house, in its own words
The Von Eusersdorff name carries the weight of a German apothecary family that dealt in rare perfume materials and spices for nearly three centuries before emigrating to America. According to multiple fragrance publications, the original Von Eusersdorffs operated an apothecary, building expertise in sourcing and handling exotic botanical ingredients through multiple generations. The family eventually joined the wave of German emigrants and brought their knowledge of rare materials to New York. The fragrance brand was founded by Camille Henfling-Von Eusersdorff, a former businessman who decided to revive his family's heritage through perfume production. Camille Henfling has described the project as an effort to honor the family's historical connection to the perfume trade, essentially picking up where his ancestors left off. The brand officially launched in 2010 with Classic Patchouli, followed by additional classic materials that reflected the original apothecary's focus on fundamental perfume ingredients. This heritage gives the brand a sense of continuity, connecting contemporary fragrance production to a European tradition of botanical expertise that predates modern synthetic perfumery by centuries.
Von Eusersdorff operates from the belief that classic perfume materials deserve to be experienced on their own terms. Rather than using these ingredients as supporting elements within complex constructions, the brand isolates each material to let its essential character speak directly. This approach treats patchouli, myrrh, vetiver, and their companions as complete olfactory experiences rather than building blocks. The philosophy values authenticity and directness, presenting customers with honest expressions of natural materials rather than elaborate interpretations. There is an educational dimension to this approach, inviting wearers to develop a deeper understanding of individual ingredients by experiencing them without distraction. The brand reportedly emphasizes material quality over novelty, releasing only when satisfied with how an ingredient has been captured rather than adhering to industry release schedules. This patient methodology reflects the apothecary tradition of careful preparation and personal attention to each substance.
