Heritage
A house, in its own words
True Brit London Limited was incorporated in England and Wales in 2019, according to the UK Companies House register. The same year, founder Kate Cavan released the brand’s inaugural eight‑bottle portfolio: Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Race Day, Mayfair, Heirloom, Country Life, Vintage and Britannia. Cavan, who began experimenting with perfume at age four, entered the cosmetics industry over three decades ago, gaining experience across formulation, branding and retail. Her decision to launch a distinctly British line emerged from a desire to capture the nation’s nuanced etiquette and regional character in a format that could travel beyond the island. Early coverage in niche perfume blogs highlighted the launch as a fresh addition to the UK’s growing independent perfume scene. By 2020, True Brit secured placement in several specialty boutiques across London, expanding its reach to select overseas retailers in 2021. The brand’s growth has been modest but steady, with each new release accompanied by a short narrative that ties the scent to a specific British locale or tradition. In 2022 the company filed its first set of audited accounts, confirming a stable financial footing for a small‑scale operation. Throughout its short history, True Brit has maintained a focus on authenticity, avoiding mass‑market distribution in favor of curated experiences that echo the brand’s origin story.
True Brit’s creative vision rests on the premise that scent can act as a cultural map. Cavan describes the brand’s purpose as translating the “spirit and traditions of England” into fragrance, a claim echoed in the company’s own storytelling notes. The house emphasizes locality, selecting ingredients that have historic ties to British life – for example, English rose from the Kent countryside, black tea leaves reminiscent of afternoon rituals, and leather accords that recall traditional carriage interiors. Ethical sourcing is a stated value; the brand works with suppliers who can trace raw materials to regions that meet European Union standards for sustainability. Transparency is reflected in the way each perfume is paired with a brief essay that explains the inspiration behind the name, the chosen accords, and the intended emotional resonance. Rather than chasing trends, True Brit aims for timelessness, designing scents that can be revisited across seasons and generations. The brand also encourages personal connection, inviting customers to share the stories that each fragrance evokes, thereby turning the act of wearing perfume into a shared cultural dialogue.
