Heritage
A house, in its own words
Ravenscourt Apothecary emerged in 2013 when its founder—a creative who had relocated from the United States to Europe—found herself at a crossroads in London and decided to channel her passions into something tangible. She drew from her love of Victorian literature and unusual tea varietals to create a brand that felt deeply personal. Rather than following a traditional perfume house trajectory, the founder established an apothecary that uses perfumery as a storytelling medium. Each fragrance pays homage to a literary work, a beloved character, or a specific tea tradition. All thirteen perfumes in the initial collection launched in 2013—a complete vision rather than a gradual expansion. The brand occupies a distinctive space: an artisan apothecary rooted in narrative, operating from London and serving a community of readers and tea enthusiasts who appreciate its literary sensibility and handmade quality.
The brand approaches perfume as a form of literary adaptation. Each fragrance in their collection interprets a character, mood, or narrative from classic literature—making the invisible world of scent a vehicle for storytelling. The tea-inspired scents take a different approach, distilling the sensory experience of specific tea traditions into olfactory form. The founder operates with a conviction that beauty products should carry no ethical compromise: the house is explicitly vegan, and cruelty-free principles inform every formulation choice. Sustainability threads through the business model, from ingredient sourcing to packaging materials. The name itself—Ravenscourt—evokes the atmospheric estates of nineteenth-century fiction, suggesting a Gothic romanticism that the visual identity reinforces. This combination of literary reverence, tea culture, and ethical practice sets the house apart in a landscape where few brands integrate all three so explicitly.
