Heritage
A house, in its own words
Linda and Mike Sivrican met while working in the fragrance trade on the West Coast. Their combined experience in raw material sourcing and formulation led them to create Capsule Parfumerie in 2012, a boutique house that emphasized small‑batch production and artistic freedom. The couple established a modest studio in Los Angeles, where they began experimenting with non‑linear scent structures. By 2018, their research yielded a series of accords that resisted conventional classification. The duo introduced Parallax Olfactory in early 2019 as a dedicated platform for these experimental works. The launch featured six distinct fragrances, each named after a natural or geometric concept, and was accompanied by a limited‑edition press release that highlighted the brand’s intent to treat perfume as a visual art form. In 2020 Parallax participated in the Los Angeles Fragrance Expo, where the line attracted attention from niche‑perfume collectors and independent retailers. The following year the house opened a pop‑up gallery in San Francisco, pairing scent with abstract paintings from local artists. 2022 marked the first collaboration with a sustainable packaging supplier, allowing the brand to replace standard glass with recycled aluminum caps while maintaining a tactile feel. In 2023 Parallax Olfactory secured a feature in the niche‑perfume quarterly "Perfume Review" which praised the line’s intellectual rigor. The brand continues to release limited runs, each accompanied by a detailed dossier that documents ingredient origins, synthesis methods, and the conceptual narrative behind the scent.
Parallax Olfactory treats fragrance as a medium for abstract expression rather than a vehicle for linear storytelling. The founders describe their approach as a dialogue between chemistry and perception, where each accord serves as a visual cue that the nose translates into personal meaning. The brand values transparency, providing consumers with ingredient lists and synthesis pathways for both natural extracts and synthetics. Sustainability informs sourcing decisions; the house prefers suppliers that practice responsible harvesting and that disclose traceability data. Creative freedom drives the lab work: perfumers are encouraged to combine notes that traditionally belong to separate families, resulting in accords that challenge the nose. Parallax also embraces education, publishing short essays that explain the scientific principles behind each fragrance, from esterification to aroma‑chemical interaction. This intellectual openness reflects a belief that informed wearers can appreciate the nuance of experimental perfume more fully.
