    Master Perfumer

    Valery Sokolov

Valery Sokolov entered the fragrance world after a childhood steeped in the scents of his Ukrainian hometown. He apprenticed under a master perfumer in Kyiv, where he learned to translate memory into aroma. By his mid‑twenties he earned a place at Le Ré Noir, a boutique house that prized artistic risk. His first major release, L’âme De Vétiver, captured critics’ attention with its raw, earthy heart and luminous finish. The perfume earned a spot in the brand’s core collection and opened doors to collaborations across Europe. Over the next decade he expanded his palette, crafting Élixir de and several limited editions that explore the dialogue between natural extracts and modern synthetics. Today he balances studio work with teaching, guiding a new generation of noses while continuing to push his own creative limits.

    The signature

    How Valery composes

Valery favors a linear construction that reveals a single note before it unfolds into a richer accord. He works primarily with vetiver, cedar, and ambergris, pairing them with unexpected accents such as dried fruit or spice. He prefers natural absolutes when they offer depth, but he does not shy away from synthetics that add precision. His technique often involves slow maceration, allowing the base to mature before adding top nuances. The result feels both grounded and luminous, a signature that collectors recognize instantly.

    Philosophy

    What drives Valery

Valery treats each bottle as a conversation between the past and the present. He believes that scent should anchor a moment while inviting curiosity. He draws inspiration from the landscapes of his youth, from forest floor to river mist, and he seeks to preserve their integrity in the lab. He respects the chemistry of ingredients, allowing each molecule to speak before he blends them. This disciplined curiosity drives him to revisit familiar notes and discover new facets within them.
