Pascal Rolland
Pascal Rolland's nose was shaped in the sun-soaked fields of Grasse. He began his apprenticeship there in the 1980s under the Carles method—a rigorous, traditional approach to perfumery that demands absolute mastery of raw materials before one attempts to compose. The discipline stayed with him throughout a career now spanning four decades. After his Grasse years, he returned to the UK, where he continued building his craft within the industry. In 2012, he joined Robertet as Senior Perfumer, bringing his classical training to one of the industry's most respected fragrance houses. His work reflects the patience and precision of his formative years: compositions built from the ground up, layer by carefully considered layer.

How Pascal composes
With over forty years of experience, Rolland commands a style rooted in French classical perfumery but responsive to contemporary tastes. His compositions tend toward rich, enveloping textures—warm woods, resins, and florals rendered with tactile precision. Notes like iris, jasmine, and artemisia appear across his portfolio, often balanced against powdery or slightly aniseed accents. He handles oriental structures particularly well, building depth through thoughtful layering rather than heavy-handed concentration. His work aims for wearability without sacrificing character.
Philosophy
What drives Pascal
Rolland's approach begins where all lasting fragrance begins—with raw materials. Trained to understand each ingredient as a living, evolving element, he composes with an acute awareness of how scent develops on skin over time. He favors clarity and intentionality over complexity for its own sake, believing that the finest materials, handled with respect, need not be complicated to be compelling. His decades at Robertet have reinforced a commitment to working closely with natural ingredients and the suppliers who cultivate them.
