    The Story of Kayali Fragrances

Kayali is a modern fragrance house born from a Middle Eastern love of perfume and reimagined for a global audience. Founded by Mona Kattan, the brand champions the art of fragrance layering, encouraging you to mix and match its scents to create a signature that is uniquely yours. It’s a playful and luxurious approach to personal expression.

    Heritage

Kayali, which means 'my imagination' in Arabic, was brought to life in 2018 by fragrance aficionado Mona Kattan. As the sister of Huda Kattan and co-founder of the Huda Beauty empire, Mona stepped out to create a brand that was entirely her own passion project. Growing up in an Iraqi-American family, perfume was not just an accessory but a ritual, a core part of her identity and culture. She wanted to bottle that deep, personal connection to scent. The brand launched with 'The Collection | 01,' a set of four distinct fragrances designed to be worn alone or layered together. This initial offering, featuring Elixir | 11, Vanilla | 28, Citrus | 08, and Musk | 12, was a bold statement. It immediately established Kayali's core concept: to educate and empower consumers to become their own perfumers. It was a successful move, translating the traditional Middle Eastern practice of layering oils and perfumes for a modern, international market.

    Craftsmanship

Kayali partners with world-renowned perfume houses like Firmenich and Givaudan, collaborating with master perfumers to bring Mona Kattan's visions to life. The process is deeply personal and meticulous. For instance, the number that follows each fragrance name, such as the '28' in Vanilla | 28, signifies the exact number of modifications the formula underwent before receiving final approval. This small detail speaks volumes about their commitment to perfecting every scent. While the soul of the brand is rooted in rich Middle Eastern ingredients like oud, amber, and rose, the execution is decidedly contemporary. They source high-quality raw materials from across the globe, balancing traditional notes with unexpected, often gourmand, twists. This blend of heritage and modernity results in fragrances that feel both timeless and completely new.

    Design Language

Kayali's design language is one of modern opulence. The bottles are crafted from heavy, luxurious glass, cut like precious jewels with clean, geometric lines. They're designed to be displayed on a vanity, feeling substantial and beautiful in the hand. The caps are equally striking, often resembling polished gemstones that add to the bottle's jewel-like character. The overall visual identity is clean and sophisticated, using elegant typography and a refined color palette that lets the striking bottle design take center stage. This aesthetic perfectly mirrors the juice inside: a blend of rich tradition and sleek, contemporary style.

    Philosophy

At its heart, Kayali's philosophy is about making fragrance fun, personal, and accessible. The house works to demystify the often-intimidating world of perfumery, presenting scent as a tool for self-expression and mood enhancement. Mona Kattan's vision is clear: perfume should tell your story. By designing each fragrance to be both a standalone statement and a harmonious component in a larger scent wardrobe, Kayali provides the building blocks for endless creativity. The brand rejects the old idea of a single, lifelong 'signature scent' in favor of a fluid, ever-changing scent identity that matches your mood, outfit, or occasion.
