Joey Rosin
Joey Rosin picked up the saxophone long before he ever considered wearing a lab coat. A musician and composer from Riverwoods, Illinois, Rosin spent years expressing himself through melody and rhythm before the pandemic presented an unexpected turning point. With performance opportunities halted in 2020, he turned inward and began teaching himself the art of fragrance composition. The transition might seem unusual, but Rosin approached perfumery with the same rigor he applied to music: studying the building blocks, understanding how elements interact, and ultimately seeking to create something that moved people. His formal entry into the industry came through mentorship under independent perfumer Michael Nordstrand, where Rosin worked as an assistant and absorbed the nuances of concept-driven formulation. He founded Hoax Parfum as his own bespoke fragrance design and consultancy, while simultaneously serving as Junior Perfumer at Mythologist Studio. His work with the Horological Society of New York on the fragrance "1866" demonstrated his ability to translate abstract concepts, in this case the intersection of time and scent, into something tangible and evocative. For Rosin, fragrance has become another language for exploring history, memory, and the spaces between.

The signature
How Joey composes
Rosin's approach blends analytical precision with artistic intuition, a balance he developed through years of musical training. He gravitates toward fragrances that evolve over time, mirroring how a melody unfolds. While specific ingredient preferences remain part of his evolving signature, his work with "1866" suggests an affinity for complex, multi-layered compositions that reward patience and close attention. His style emphasizes narrative through scent construction, creating fragrances that feel like chapters rather than single notes.
Philosophy
What drives Joey
Rosin builds fragrances around ideas. He doesn't start with a smell; he starts with a question, a theme, or a historical reference point. His work seeks to occupy liminal spaces, those in-between moments where memory and imagination blur. He wants wearers to experience not just a pleasant scent but an invitation to introspect. Concept-driven and widely accessible, his fragrances aim to be both intellectually engaging and emotionally resonant, proving that storytelling and wearability can coexist.
