Irina Zhurikhina-Nesa
Irina Zhurikhina-Nesa came to perfumery by an unconventional route. Her former life unfolded in corporate fundraising for national health charities, a world far removed from the laboratories and raw materials of Grasse. She loved her work, she has said, but something fundamental was missing. The itch for creativity proved impossible to ignore. She made the leap into an industry dominated by centuries of tradition and trained noses, becoming one of the few professionally trained female perfumers to establish her own fragrance house. Today she runs Maison Incens, her own atelier, while collaborating with artisans like Atelier de Geste. Her signature creation, Figue Aoudii, announced a voice rooted in fig and oud but uninterested in the expected. She has built a small, deliberate body of work that rewards patience.

How Irina composes
Fig serves as a recurring anchor in Irina's work, explored in variations that move from the creamy green heart of the fruit into darker, woodier territories. Figue Aoudii pairs ripe fig with the resinous depth of oud, while her collaborations with Atelier de Geste, including the mineral composition Stones, reveal an appetite for unexpected material pairings. She gravitates toward natural materials and enjoys pushing them into unfamiliar configurations. Her style favors clarity and intentionality over complexity for its own sake.
Philosophy
What drives Irina
Irina speaks plainly about what it takes to make a perfume that actually works. Twenty thousand trials, she has noted, can go into a single composition. That number is not hyperbole; it is the honest arithmetic of her craft. She does not chase trends or rest on established formulas. Instead, she waits until a fragrance feels right, until the pieces click into place. Her philosophy centers on the discipline behind the beauty, on the invisible labor that separates a memorable scent from an forgettable one. She builds from instinct but insists on rigor.
