    Atelier Fragranze

Luca Maffei grew up in Milan surrounded by the scent‑filled workshops of his family. His first memory of perfume is his mother’s Coco by Chanel, a whisper that sparked a lifelong fascination. After completing formal perfumery studies in Italy, he spent several years refining his craft alongside seasoned noses in both Milan and Grasse. In 2011, at the age of fifteen, he and his father launched Atelier Fragranze Milano, a composition house that quickly attracted collaborations with niche brands and the French perfumer Antoine Lie. Luca’s early projects earned praise for their vivid storytelling and precise balance, establishing him as a fresh voice in contemporary perfumery. Today he guides a small team of artisans, turning personal recollections into scents that feel both intimate and unmistakably Italian.

    The signature

    How Atelier composes

Luca favors a linear composition that unfolds in three clear stages, each anchored by a signature ingredient. He often begins with a bright citrus or aromatic herb to capture attention, then introduces a heart of Italian florals such as neroli or orange blossom. The base typically features warm woods, amber, or a touch of leather, providing depth without overwhelming the narrative. He prefers natural extracts when they align with his memory‑driven concept, but will integrate synthetics that enhance longevity or add unexpected nuance. His meticulous blending process emphasizes balance, ensuring no single note overshadows the story.

    Philosophy

    What drives Atelier

Luca believes that scent should translate a memory into a tangible moment. He starts each brief with a single image—a sun‑drenched piazza, a quiet kitchen, a childhood laugh—and lets that picture dictate the structure of the fragrance. He treats raw materials as characters, allowing them to converse rather than dominate. This narrative‑first mindset keeps his work grounded in emotion while encouraging technical rigor. For Luca, the most rewarding outcome is a perfume that instantly transports the wearer to a specific place or feeling, without relying on overt trends.
