The Story of Shyamala Maisondieu, Adriana Medina-Baez, Nadege le Garlantezec and Sonia Constant

Four perfumers. Three continents. One shared obsession with the emotional power of scent. Shyamala Maisondieu grew up in Malaysia with ambitions of astronomy before chemistry led her to Givaudan's perfumery school in Grasse. Nadège Le Garlantezec came to perfumery through ISIPCA and a Prix International du Jeune Parfumeur-Créateur in 2006. Adriana Medina-Baez arrived from Colombia, contributing a different olfactory culture to the mix. Sonia Constant rounded out the group, trained within Givaudan's own program. These four women found each other at Givaudan's Paris studio, where their complementary perspectives proved more valuable than any single signature. Their most celebrated collaboration, Lancôme Idôle, became the French beauty house's most significant launch in a decade. Maisondieu received the Prix François Coty in 2019, a career vindication that confirmed what collaborators had always known. Together they represent something rare in perfumery: a creative unit where difference becomes strength and collective ambition exceeds individual ego.

    Philosophy

They believe perfume should smell like an idea you can hold. Their collaborative approach treats fragrance creation as conversation rather than competition, each perfumer bringing distinct technical expertise to the table. Maisondieu has spoken of making her own voice heard within a team; Le Garlantezec focuses on the dreamlike emotional territory a scent can reveal; Medina-Baez contributes perspectives that bridge olfactory cultures. The original concept for Idôle emerged from Maisondieu's desire to bottle the universal scent of cleanliness, suggesting their work prioritizes accessibility without sacrificing complexity. They do not chase trends. They build fragrances that feel inevitable.

    Creative Approach

Clean, modern, and emotionally precise. Their Idôle work defined a musky chypre floral language for a new generation, combining sustainably sourced Isparta rose with crisp white musk and lactonic warmth. Le Garlantezec's classical French training provides structural elegance, while Maisondieu's scientific background grounds compositions in precise material behavior. The Narciso Rodriguez collaborations under their hand revealed a darker, more animalic register. Herbae showcased their ability to reinterpret heritage materials with contemporary restraint. They favor rose, musk, and woody materials, but their true signature lies in how they orchestrate these ingredients into compositions that feel both current and lasting.
