The Story of in the mid notes

Alberto Morillas spent his childhood in Seville before his family relocated to Switzerland when he was ten. He briefly studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Geneva before discovering that a single person stood behind every fragrance he admired. A Vogue article about Jean-Paul Guerlain became his catalyst. Morillas joined Firmenich in 1970 at age twenty, essentially self-taught, and never looked back. He established his reputation with Must de Cartier in 1975, the jewelry house's first fragrance. The breakthrough came in 1994 when he co-created CK One with Harry Fremont for Calvin Klein, a fragrance that sold roughly ninety million dollars annually at its peak and redefined what unisex perfume could be. Morillas has since composed nearly seven thousand fragrances across mass-market and niche houses. He and his wife Claudine launched Mizensir in 1997, beginning with scented candles before expanding into fine fragrance in 2015. He maintains a custom perfumery service at Harrods in London and continues creating at dsm-firmenich, the Swiss fragrance house where his career began. He received the prestigious Prix François Coty in 2003.

    Philosophy

Morillas believes perfumery lives at the intersection of memory and sensation. His earliest scent memories include his mother's bottle of Rochas Femme and his father's hair tonic, formative impressions that taught him how fragrance becomes intertwined with identity. He approaches each brief as a new language to learn, adapting his method depending on whether he works for Karl Lagerfeld or Dolce and Gabbana. Every designer requires a different conversation through scent. He is drawn to compositions that evoke the Mediterranean, its deep blue water, sun-drenched citruses, and coastal florals. Rather than chasing trends, Morillas focuses on creating fragrances that become personal to the wearer, formulas they will remember decades later. His process involves constant study of materials and their combinations, treating each ingredient as a word in a vocabulary he continues expanding after more than five decades.

    Creative Approach

Morillas occupies a space between accessible and artistic. His work spans mass-market blockbusters and rare niche compositions, yet all share certain hallmarks. He favors radiant, luminous openings that transition into richer, more complex heart compositions. His citrus work is considered among the industry's finest, whether in the effervescent brightness of CK One or the sun-kissed facets of Acqua di Giò. He has shown particular skill with florals, from the powdery elegance of Marc Jacobs Daisy to the bold naturalism of Kenzo Flower. His compositions often feature a seamless quality where top, heart, and base notes blend rather than announce themselves in sequence. This linearity gives his creations longevity on skin while maintaining coherence from first spray to final dry-down. Whether working on luxury niche houses like Aedes de Venustas or global fashion brands, Morillas brings the same attention to structure and emotional resonance.
