The Story of Celine Ripert
Céline Ripert grew up in the perfume-saturated air of southern France, where aromatic fields aren't just scenery but inheritance. She began her career in 2003 at Mane, working as an analyst in the chromatography department while simultaneously studying at the MANE Perfumery School in Bar-sur-Loup. Her formal investiture as a perfumer came in 2008, though the foundations were laid years earlier working with natural raw materials. In 2015, Ripert founded her own house, NANA.M, in Grasse, partnering with glassblower Christophe Saba from Biot to create bottles as distinctive as the juices inside. She spent over two decades navigating the Grasse fragrance industry before establishing her independent voice, creating fragrances for niche houses including Blood Concept, Ormonde Jayne, Andrea Maack, and Parfums de Marly, where she collaborated with Nathalie Templer on the unisex Kalan.
Philosophy
Ripert approaches fragrance as storytelling through chemistry. She has spoken about the desire to translate her "olfactive signature" into work that feels unmistakably hers, describing her creative process as something that "matured for four years, version after version, becoming more precise, refined, enriched, beautiful." Working from her Grasse base, she draws on the regional tradition of natural raw materials while remaining open to synthetic innovation. The thread connecting her work across houses is coherence: every element must point in the same direction and tell the same story.
Creative Approach
Ripert's signature palette leans toward warm, aromatic materials with a distinct preference for spices and woods. Black pepper and ginger appear most frequently across her catalog, followed by cardamom and saffron. She gravitates toward ingredients with natural complexity, favoring notes that shift and develop rather than remain static. Her work spans from the fruity-floral elegance of Annayake Her to the dark intensity of Andrea Maack's Coven, demonstrating comfort across gender presentations and mood registers. She shows particular affinity for ylang-ylang, artemisia, and balsam fir, and has an evident skill with vanilla-adjacent compositions.
