She abandoned marketing entirely and enrolled in a two-and-a-half-year training program to become a perfumer. In Germany, only about sixty people practice this profession. Today, Kalle develops fragrances for 4711 Original Eau de Cologne, the storied house celebrating more than two centuries of heritage. She composes entirely at her desk, building formulas in her mind before ever touching raw materials. At 4711, she has renewed and extended the brand with her own series, bringing fresh vision to a house sold in 160 countries worldwide. Her late start, she has said, gave her a freedom that younger-trained perfumers sometimes lack: the ability to see scent-making not as destiny but as a choice, made deliberately and with conviction.
