The Story of Sicilian Mandarin Orange
Sicilian Mandarin Orange captures the sun-drenched essence of Citrus reticulata from Sicily's groves. Cold-pressed from the peel, it delivers an immediate burst of juicy zest with a distinctive green edge that brightens any fragrance composition.
Heritage
The mandarin's story begins in ancient China, where it was cultivated for thousands of years before becoming one of the first citrus fruits to travel westward. The name itself honors its historical role as a gift presented to government officials during Chinese festivals. Ancient trade routes carried the fruit across Asia and eventually to European shores. Jesuit missionaries and merchants introduced it to the Mediterranean, where Sicily's warm coastal climate proved perfectly suited to its cultivation. The island's volcanic terrain and extended growing season allow Sicilian mandarins to develop a distinctive balance of acidity and sweetness. Clementines emerged later as a hybrid between mandarins and bitter oranges, created by Brother Clement in nineteenth-century Algeria. Today, Sicilian mandarins rank among the world's most prized for perfumery, their groves producing fruit with intensely aromatic peels that capture Mediterranean sunshine in liquid form.
