Heritage
Loewe traces its origins to 1846, when a collective of Spanish leather craftsmen established a workshop in Madrid dedicated to producing luxury leather goods. For nearly three decades, the operation functioned without a unified identity until 1872, when Enrique Loewe Roessberg, a German leather specialist of Hessian origin, arrived in the capital and consolidated the artisans under his name. The brand quickly earned royal recognition. In 1905, King Alfonso XIII granted the house the title of Purveyor to the Royal Court, with Queen Victoria Eugenie becoming a regular customer. The label attracted luminaries including Ernest Hemingway, Sophia Loren, and Marlene Dietrich. Loewe entered ready-to-wear in 1965 and launched its debut fragrance, L de Loewe, in 1972, marking its entrance into international perfumery. LVMH acquired the house in 1996, making Loewe the conglomerate's oldest luxury fashion house. Jonathan Anderson took the creative reins in 2013, launching the 001 fragrance in 2016 as a new chapter for the brand. Nuria Cruelles, who trained under long-serving perfumer Emilio Valeros, assumed leadership of the perfumery program in 2019, carrying forward his legacy.
